PROJECT OVERVIEW
Cross on the horizon
Mission Teams can expect to work on rehabilitation of a 24,000 square foot former school which is now being used by CMI as a community and training center for Christian pastors and community leaders. Tasks include painting, relocating walls, laying tile and other flooring, electrical/plumbing, and many more. You may also be assigned to repair homes or churches.

Outreach targets children who need positive role models to help overcome hopelessness, effects of poverty and addictions and the elderly who live without necessary resources. Anticipate participating in Kidz’ Club, Bible Studies, ball games, fishing tournaments, craft night, skits, puppet shows and picnics.

The Navajo are hospitable once relationships are established. Honesty and building trust are priorities. It’s vital to keep your word once you give it, so only make promises you can keep.

REQUIREMENTS
Participants must:
1. have accepted and acknowledge Jesus as Savior and have a personal relationship with Him.
2. be willing to share their testimonies and a Gospel message.
3. be willing to submit to authority and demonstrate a servant's heart.

WHERE YOU'LL SERVE
Location Description:
The Navajo Nation is the largest reservation in the United States. Its area stretches across the Colorado Plateau from northeastern Arizona to northwestern New Mexico, including a narrow band of southern Utah. Striking sandstone buttes, mesas, and pinnacles rise starkly above the 5000' high plateau floor.

Logistics:
You'll sleep in rooms at the Cornerstone facility in Smith Lake. Please bring air mattresses, bedding and towels. Hot showers are on tap.   Meals are prepared on site, and safe drinking water is provided.

Weather:
Summer temperatures average in the 90s, with considerably cooler nights. Of the 6-10 inches of moisture per year, most falls as rain in late summer. Blue skies dotted with white clouds are typical.

Area Attractions:
Chaco Culture National Historical Park offers self-guided tours through the ruins of ancient indigenous peoples. Aztec Ruins National Monument and Angel Peak National Recreation Area are also nearby.

On the floor of Canyon de Chelly National Monument, in Arizona near the New Mexico border, some Navajo still tend sheep. Window Rock, the capital of the Navajo Nation on the AZ/NM border, is named after a huge sandstone formation shaped like a round window. The tribal headquarters are adjacent.

Tour guides take groups on hikes through the cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde National Park near Cortez, Colorado. Nearby, Four Corners is the only place in the U.S. where four states meet. Monument Valley touches the Utah border, and has been the set location for many western movies.

Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site near Ganado is famous for its inventory of Navajo rugs, with each distinctive pattern woven in a certain locale for generations.

CMI can recommend a great day-off experience for your mission group.
